"I found it!"

Another tidbit about the history of Campus Crusade for Christ. LOVE IT!

"In 1976, Campus Crusade for Christ launched its most far-reaching experience at that time. Going beyond college campuses, the ministry created the evangelistic “I Found It!” campaign that swept the nation. “I Found It!” was a slogan first on bumper stickers and buttons that people pinned to their clothing, then on billboards. The idea was that the phrase, “I Found It!” would prompt people to ask participants (with the pin or bumper sticker) what they found. Then the Christian could explain the peace and joy they found in Christ. Along with the stickers, pins and signs, Campus Crusade created an 800-number and local numbers for people to call to find out what “It” is and hear more about a relationship with Christ.

The campaign mobilized more than 300,000 volunteers from 15,000 churches in 246 cities for organized evangelism. Some volunteers used Campus Crusade materials to do “community religous surveys” door-to-door and to talk with people on the phone in calling centers. Conversations often started out with “Have you seen the billboards?”, “What do you think ‘It’ is about?”, “Do you attend worship?” and then proceeded to a gospel presentation.

About 85 percent of all Americans were exposed to the campaign. By 1978, Campus Crusade established similar campaigns in more than 100 countries. Campus Crusade estimates that 3.5 million worldwide became Christians through “I Found It!"
